Title: Shortcuts using script files
Post by: roger on March 28, 2013, 09:58:22 PM
NoiseMap has got so many great functions, but do you sometimes wish there were shortcuts to avoid all the button clicking and waits for complex processes to finish?

Well, there is in fact a system built into NoiseMap that lets you write your own shortcuts - it's called the scripting system.

Suppose you have model with four scenarios and you need to modify something in the base scenario.  This will affect all the child scenarios.  Then you will have to recalculate all the contours and receivers in the child scenarios.  This will mean a lot of loading of scenarios, running database calculations, then downloading the results and exporting them.

You can put all this into a single script file.  Then you simply run the script and all the calculations, downloading and exporting will be done for you.  It can save you a lot of time and avoid mistakes.

You can't script absolutely everything, but there are 66 script commands, each quite powerful, including loading and converting DXF and Shapefiles, creating new scenarios, calculating and exporting results, joining and leaving the calculation queue, with proper programming commands - looping branching and allowing user input to allow customisation.

We are going to provide some examples of script files so you can see what can be done.
