We work hard to ensure that there will be maximum compatibility between versions of NoiseMap, so that you can upgrade without worry. We sometimes have to modify the database so that it will work with new features that we want to add. We try to ensure that we do this so that new versions can read old databases and vice versa.
Of course, old versions of NoiseMap simply have to ignore features in the database that they can't use, and new versions simply add the additional features into the database, and these will be ignored by the older versions.
Nevertheless, we do advise users to use the latest version, and in particular we strongly advise people not to use two different versions of NoiseMap simultaneously on the same database.
We only update NoiseMap when there is a good reason to do so - we don't ever do it as an excuse to charge maintenance fees! Older versions may be less reliable, less accurate, slower or less easy to use. Computers are still advancing rapidly and we can now incorporate features that would have been intolerably time-consuming or memory-hungry on machines even just a few years old.
