Importing noise models from other software
« on: June 05, 2013, 02:21:10 PM »
NoiseMap can import noise models from other software.  This is not always a seamless process, however, because other software has different methods of implementing 'Calculation of Road Traffic Noise' and other calculation technologies.  For example, they may expect a different way of specifying road surface type from that adopted by CRTN and NoiseMap.

The recommendation is to export the model from the other software using Shapefiles.  Usually, you will need to export separate shapefiles for, say, ground contours, noise barriers, road segments, buildings and receiver points.  However, some other software has to 'shoehorn' the parameters required by CRTN into spaces designed for other parameters in the original software.  This means that the exported parameters have to be unravelled by a conversion routine before they can be used.  NoiseMap Ltd is usually prepared to write conversion routines where one does not already exist, as long as the technical information is available, but it is usually necessary for us to charge for the work.

Where conversions have already been prepared, these may be freely available within NoiseMap, or may be available for a reasonable charge.

So, if you are inheriting a model written for some other software and want to use it in NoiseMap, please do not hesitate to enquire about the conversion methods and utilities.

Please note that we do not provide conversion utilities to convert from NoiseMap format to the specific format of other software systems.
